Mark's Bio

South MarkMark Giambruno was born December 31st in Placerville, California. He grew up in Sacramento, where he enjoyed annoying his teachers with epic space battles drawn--during class--in the margins of his schoolwork. In high school and college he pursued classes in art and electronics.

He started his own computer graphics firm in 1990 and later relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area to go to work for Mondo Media, becoming one of their lead artists and project directors. While at Mondo, he worked on assets or cinematics for a number of game-related projects, including Zork: Nemesis, Mechwarrior 3, Star Fleet Command I & II and The Daedalus Encounter, featuring Tia Carerre of Wayne's World fame. His responsibilities on Daedalus included co-writing the script, art direction and editing. After the project wrapped, he wrote the official hint guide, which became his first published book. He later went on to write 3D Graphics and Animation: From Starting Up to Standing Out and 3D Graphics and Animation: Second Edition, two in-depth guides to learning and breaking into the CG field. All told, he has written or contributed to more than thirty books, including a number of English adaptations of Japanese manga and light novels. He also worked on adapting and subtitling the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure DVD series.

With most of his work now being done out of his home office, he decided to leave the expensive Bay Area and return to Sacramento in 2006. In addition to working part-time for REGION FREE, he remains an independent contractor providing art direction, writing, web development and 3D modeling services through his own Binary Arts company.
